LEDRUSASA, CUVU AND WAIDAMIDAMU PROJECTS TO BE COMPLETED THIS YEAR HON. KUMAR

 

Sunday 28 June 2020 - The Minister for Housing and Community Development Hon. Premila Kumar, visited Cuvu informal settlement in Nadroga last week.  

 

Whilst in Cuvu, the Minister was able to inspect the progress of civil works carried out on site. Contractors were also visible carrying out site clearing, in order for civil works to recommence.

 

“There are three projects that will be finishing this year. These are Ledrusasa, Cuvu and Waidamdamu. In other words, we will be able to issue 99 year leases to 451 families in these three settlements once these projects complete this year.”

 

The visit was to reaffirm the Ministry’s commitment in completing the civil construction works in Cuvu, which had lapsed for a period of three years.

 

“Cuvu project started in 2014 and unfortunately in 2017 the project came to a standstill as it was not fully completed, so we’re reviving that. Our intention is to finish that project before end of this year.” said Hon. Kumar.

 

The Minister added that for any development, once the development is completed, the infrastructure is handed over to relevant Authorities. The roads are taken over by Fiji Roads Authority, Sewerage and water lines by Water Authority of Fiji and maintenance of the drains, footpath and garbage collection will be handed over to the Municipal Councils.

 

“That’s why we need all these parties to come to the site, have an assessment, tell us what more we need to do or whether we have done enough, so that we can transfer the road to FRA and sewer and water lines to WAF and other services to the Municipal Council,” Hon. Kumar stated.

 

After the completion of construction phase, the lot allotment process will begin. A detail socio survey and a strict means test will be conducted for verification purposes. The Fijian Government allocated a total sum of $12.2 million for the completion of the three projects (Ledrusasa, Cuvu and Waidamudamu) this year.
